Faq for SELEXIPAG - ORAL

Selexipag is an oral medication used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition characterized by high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs.

Selexipag works by activating receptors called prostacyclin receptors in the blood vessels of the lungs. This activation leads to relaxation and widening of the blood vessels, reducing the pressure on the arteries and improving blood flow.

Common side effects of selexipag include headache, diarrhea, nausea, jaw pain, muscle pain, flushing, and joint pain.

Selexipag is taken orally, usually twice daily with or without food. The dosage is typically started low and gradually increased as tolerated.

The effects of selexipag may start to be seen within a few weeks of starting treatment. However, it may take several months to experience the full benefits of the medication.

Selexipag is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age, as safety and efficacy in this population have not been established.

Selexipag is classified as a pregnancy category B drug, which means it has not been shown to cause harm to the fetus in animal studies. However, its safety in pregnant women has not been extensively studied. It should only be used in pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks.

If you miss a dose of selexipag, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Selexipag may interact with certain medications, including strong inhibitors or inducers of the CYP2C8 enzyme. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products, before starting selexipag.
