Sacubitril/valsartan is used to treat heart failure in patients who have a reduced ejection fraction.
Sacubitril/valsartan is a combination medication that works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the strain on the heart. It also inhibits an enzyme responsible for breaking down a hormone that promotes vasodilation and natriuresis.
Common side effects may include low blood pressure, dizziness, cough, and increased blood potassium levels. It is important to consult your doctor if any side effects persist or worsen.
Sacubitril/valsartan may interact with certain medications, including other heart medications, potassium supplements, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is crucial to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
The usual dosage for sacubitril/valsartan is one tablet taken twice daily. It can be taken with or without food, but should be taken at the same time each day for consistent blood levels.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Avoid taking a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Sacubitril/valsartan is not recommended during pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby. It is important to discuss alternative options with your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant or are already pregnant.
Avoid using sacubitril/valsartan while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk and harm the nursing infant. Discuss potential alternatives with your healthcare provider.
It may take a few weeks for sacubitril/valsartan to start working effectively. It is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed and consult your doctor if you don't notice any improvement in your condition.
