Faq for ROLAPITANT - ORAL

Rolapitant is an oral medication that belongs to a class of drugs called neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptor antagonists. It is used in combination with other medications to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with certain cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy.

Rolapitant works by blocking the action of substance P, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in triggering nausea and vomiting. By inhibiting substance P, rolapitant helps to prevent or reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

Rolapitant is given as a single dose before chemotherapy treatment. It is usually taken orally with or without food. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the proper dosing schedule and duration of treatment.

Common side effects of rolapitant may include constipation, headache, fatigue, hiccups, and changes in taste perception. Inform your doctor if any side effects persist or worsen.

The safety and effectiveness of rolapitant in pediatric patients have not been established, and it is typically used only in adults.

Yes, several medications can interact with rolapitant. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to minimize the risk of interactions.

It is advisable to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while taking rolapitant as alcohol may exacerbate certain side effects, such as dizziness or drowsiness.

The half-life of rolapitant is approximately 180 hours (about 7.5 days). This means it takes about 7.5 days for the body to eliminate half of the medication from the system.

There is limited information on the use of rolapitant during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult with your healthcare provider to weigh the potential risks and benefits before using rolapitant in these situations.
