Faq for RESLIZUMAB - INJECTION

Reslizumab injection is used to treat severe asthma in individuals aged 18 years and older who have an eosinophilic phenotype.

Reslizumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits interleukin-5 (IL-5), a cytokine that plays a critical role in activating eosinophils. By blocking IL-5, reslizumab helps reduce eosinophil levels, resulting in improved asthma control.

Reslizumab is administered as a 3 mg/kg intravenous infusion over 20-50 minutes. It is typically given once every 4 weeks.

Common side effects may include an increase in the number of eosinophils, upper respiratory tract infections, worsening of asthma symptoms, headache, injection site reactions, and back pain.

Reslizumab may start working as early as the first dose, but it may take up to 4 weeks for some individuals to experience maximum benefit. It is important to continue using other asthma medications as prescribed by your doctor during this time.

The safety of reslizumab during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well-established. It is recommended to discuss the potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using this medication.

No significant drug interactions have been reported with reslizumab. However, it is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products.

Get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as rash, flushing, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
