Faq for MOEXIPRIL/HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE - ORAL
Moexipril/Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It contains two active ingredients, moexipril (an ACE inhibitor) and hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic).
Moexipril/Hydrochlorothiazide works by lowering blood pressure through two different mechanisms. Moexipril blocks the action of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which helps relax and widen blood vessels. Hydrochlorothiazide increases urine production, reducing the amount of fluid in the body and lowering blood pressure.
Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, fatigue, dry cough, upset stomach, diarrhea, and increased urination. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, contact your doctor promptly.
Follow your doctor's instructions and take Moexipril/Hydrochlorothiazide exactly as prescribed. Usually, it is taken once a day, with or without food. Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your body.
Do not stop taking Moexipril/Hydrochlorothiazide without consulting your doctor. Suddenly stopping the medication can cause your blood pressure to spike. Your doctor will determine if the medication needs to be adjusted or stopped.
Tell your doctor about any known allergies, medical conditions, or medications you are taking before starting Moexipril/Hydrochlorothiazide. It is important to discuss potential interactions and precautions, especially if you have kidney or liver problems, diabetes, gout, lupus, or are taking other blood pressure medications.
Moexipril/Hydrochlorothiazide is not recommended during pregnancy as it may harm the fetus. It is also not recommended while breastfeeding as the medication can pass into breast milk.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double up on doses to make up for a missed one.
The full effects of Moexipril/Hydrochlorothiazide may take several weeks. Follow your doctor's advice and attend regular check-ups to monitor your blood pressure and adjust the medication if needed.
