PHONETIC PRONUNCIATION: (lye-SIN-oh-pril/HYE-droe-KLOR-oh-THYE-a-zide)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Prinzide, Zestoretic
GENERIC NAME(S): lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide
Uses
USES: This medication is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This product contains two medications: lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a "water pill" (diuretic) that causes you to make more urine, which helps your body get rid of extra salt and water. This product is used when one drug is not controlling your blood pressure. Your doctor may direct you to take the individual medications first, and then switch you to this combination product. Do not continue taking the individual medications (lisinopril and/or hydrochlorothiazide) after you start this medication.
How to use LISINOPRIL/HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE - ORAL
HOW TO USE: Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking this medication and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. If this medication causes you to urinate more frequently, it is best to take it at least 4 hours before your bedtime to prevent having to get up to urinate. If you also take certain drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), take lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide at least 4 hours before or at least 4 to 6 hours after these medications. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Keep taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse (for example, your blood pressure readings remain high or increase).

Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination medication used to treat high blood pressure.
Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that works by relaxing blood vessels, while hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that helps the body get rid of extra salt and water, reducing fluid retention and lowering blood pressure.
Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, cough, tiredness, and a mild skin rash. It is important to notify your doctor if any severe or persistent side effects occur.
Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide may interact with other drugs, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), potassium supplements, lithium, and certain diabetes medications. It is advisable to inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking.
It is usually taken once daily with or without food. Follow your doctor's instructions and take the medication at the same time each day. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor.
This medication should not be used during pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby. Consult your doctor for safer alternatives if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
The medication may begin lowering blood pressure within hours of the first dose, but it may take a few weeks to experience the full benefits. It is important to continue taking it even if you feel well.
Drinking alcohol can increase the dizziness and lightheadedness caused by this medication. It is advisable to limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide.
It is recommended to maintain a healthy and balanced diet while taking this medication. However, certain dietary restrictions may be advised regarding salt (sodium) intake. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for specific instructions.
