Faq for LINACLOTIDE - ORAL

Linacotide is an oral medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as guanylate cyclase-C agonists. It is used for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC).

Linacotide works by increasing fluid secretion in the intestines, leading to better bowel movements and reduced constipation. It binds to the guanylate cyclase-C receptors located on the lining of the intestines, activating them to increase fluid secretion and reduce pain signals.

Linacotide should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Usually, it is taken orally once daily on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions and read the medication guide provided with the prescription.

The common side effects of Linacotide may include diarrhea, flatulence, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and headache. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. However, if you experience severe or persistent symptoms, contact your doctor.

Linacotide may start improving bowel movements within the first week of treatment. However, it can take up to 4-6 weeks for some people to experience significant relief from constipation symptoms. It is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed and not to give up too soon without consulting your doctor.

The safety of Linacotide during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. It is recommended to discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Linacotide may interact with certain medications, such as antibiotics, antifungals, and stomach acid reducers. It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications, vitamins, and supplements you are taking before starting Linacotide to avoid any potential interactions.

There are no specific dietary restrictions associated with Linacotide. However, it is always advisable to follow a healthy and balanced diet to support overall digestive health.

It is important not to stop taking Linacotide without consulting your doctor, even if your symptoms improve. Abrupt discontinuation can lead to a relapse of constipation symptoms. Your doctor will guide you on the appropriate duration of treatment based on your condition.
