Faq for LAMIVUDINE-HBV - ORAL
Lamivudine-HBV is an oral medication used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.
Lamivudine-HBV works by inhibiting the replication of the HBV virus, reducing its levels in the body and improving liver function.
Lamivudine-HBV is taken orally as directed by a healthcare professional, usually once daily. It can be taken with or without food.
The common side effects of lamivudine-HBV include headache, diarrhea, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea. Serious side effects such as lactic acidosis and liver dysfunction are rare but possible.
Lamivudine-HBV can suppress the HBV virus and improve liver function in many patients, but it may not completely eradicate the virus. It is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed to maintain the viral suppression.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult with their healthcare provider before taking lamivudine-HBV, as its safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well established.
If you miss a dose of lamivudine-HBV, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is near the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
Lamivudine-HBV may interact with certain medications, including those with a similar mechanism of action or those that affect kidney function. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking.
The duration of lamivudine-HBV treatment can vary depending on individual patient factors and the severity of the HBV infection. It is important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the duration of treatment.
Warning
WARNING: Lactic acid buildup in the blood (lactic acidosis) and sometimes fatal liver disease have occurred with the use of lamivudine-HBV, used both alone and in combination with other drugs for treating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. HIV counseling and testing should be offered to all patients both before and during treatment with lamivudine-HBV. Lamivudine-HBV contains a lower dose of the drug lamivudine, which is used to treat HIV infection as well as hepatitis B. Use of lamivudine-HBV in patients with unknown or untreated HIV infection could result in new types of HIV virus that are more difficult to treat (drug-resistant). Severe worsening of hepatitis has occurred when this medication is stopped. Liver and blood testing should continue for several months after lamivudine-HBV is stopped. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
