Faq for ISRADIPINE - ORAL

Isradipine is an oral medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers, which help relax blood vessels and improve blood flow.

Isradipine works by blocking calcium channels in the smooth muscle cells of blood vessels. This relaxation of the blood vessels helps to lower blood pressure and reduce the workload on the heart.

Isradipine is typically taken orally once or twice daily, with or without food. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the extended-release tablets.

Common side effects of Isradipine may include dizziness, headache, flushing, swelling in the ankles or feet, constipation, and stomach upset. Notify your doctor if these side effects become severe or persist.

Serious side effects of Isradipine may include low blood pressure, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, severe dizziness, swelling of the hands or face, and signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, or trouble breathing. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of these symptoms.

Isradipine may interact with certain medications, including other blood pressure-lowering drugs, antifungal medications, certain antibiotics, and grapefruit juice. It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking to avoid potential drug interactions.

Isradipine should not be used during pregnancy unless specifically directed by your doctor. It is not recommended for use while breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and could have harmful effects on the nursing infant. Consult with your doctor before taking this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The onset of action of Isradipine varies among individuals, but it usually starts working within a few hours to a few days. However, it may take several weeks for the full effects of the medication to be seen. It is important to continue taking Isradipine as prescribed, even if you do not immediately feel the effects.

It is not recommended to stop Isradipine suddenly without consulting your doctor. Abruptly stopping the medication may cause a sudden increase in blood pressure and could lead to other complications. Your doctor may need to gradually decrease the dosage before discontinuing Isradipine.
