HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens (for example, your blood pressure readings increase).

Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fainting, symptoms of a high potassium blood level (such as muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat). A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Faq for IRBESARTAN - ORAL

Irbesartan is an oral medication that belongs to a group of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). It is primarily used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and diabetic kidney disease.

Irbesartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that causes blood vessels to narrow. By blocking angiotensin II, Irbesartan relaxes and widens blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and improving blood flow.

The most common side effects of Irbesartan include dizziness, lightheadedness, tiredness, and flu-like symptoms. Some individuals may also experience diarrhea, back pain, muscle cramps, and low blood pressure.

Irbesartan is not recommended during pregnancy as it can harm an unborn baby and cause fetal death. If you become pregnant while taking Irbesartan, immediately inform your doctor.

Irbesartan is usually taken once a day with or without food. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor. Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your healthcare professional.

It is generally safe to consume alcohol in moderation while taking Irbesartan. However, excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects, such as dizziness and lightheadedness. It is advisable to talk to your doctor about your alcohol consumption.

Irbesartan is not typically used as a primary treatment for heart failure. However, it may be prescribed in combination with other medications to manage heart failure symptoms and improve cardiac function.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Irbesartan can interact with certain medications, such as potassium-sparing diuretics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and lithium. It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

Warning

WARNING: This drug can cause serious (possibly fatal) harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. Consult your doctor for more details and to discuss the use of reliable forms of birth control while taking this medication. If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor right away.
