Faq for HEPATITIS B IMMUNE GLOBULIN - INJECTION
- HBIG injection is used to prevent Hepatitis B infection in individuals who have been exposed to the virus, such as healthcare workers or individuals who have had risky exposure to infected blood or body fluids.
- HBIG injection contains antibodies that help boost the immune system's ability to fight against the Hepatitis B virus. It provides immediate but temporary protection against the infection.
- HBIG injection is given as an intramuscular injection by a healthcare professional. The injection is usually administered into the upper arm or hip.
- The frequency of HBIG injections depends on the individual's risk of exposure and healthcare provider's recommendation. It may be administered as a single dose or multiple doses over a period of time.
- Common side effects of HBIG injection may include pain or swelling at the injection site, fever, headache, fatigue, and muscle or joint pain. Serious allergic reactions are rare but may occur.
- Individuals who are allergic to any components of HBIG injection should not receive it. Additionally, individuals who have previously experienced a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of HBIG injection or any immunoglobulin products should also avoid it.
- HBIG injection is generally considered safe during pregnancy. However, it is important to consult with a healthcare provider before receiving the injection to weigh the benefits against any potential risks.
- HBIG injection is highly effective in preventing Hepatitis B infection when given within a short timeframe after exposure to the virus. However, it does not provide long-term protection, and individuals at continued risk of Hepatitis B may require additional doses or vaccination.
- HBIG injection should be stored in a refrigerator at a temperature between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F). It should not be frozen.
