Faq for FOSINOPRIL - ORAL
Fosinopril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and help prevent certain heart conditions, such as heart attacks and strokes.
Fosinopril belongs to a class of medications called ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and lowering blood pressure.
Common side effects of Fosinopril include dizziness, lightheadedness, cough, headache, and fatigue. It may also cause a dry mouth, upset stomach, or diarrhea.
Fosinopril is usually taken once or twice daily, with or without food. It is important to take it consistently and at the same time each day. Follow the instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist.
Fosinopril may interact with certain medications, including diuretics (water pills), potassium supplements, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and certain antidepressants. It is important to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking to avoid any potential interactions.
Fosinopril may start lowering blood pressure within a few hours, but it may take several weeks for the full effects to be seen. It is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed, even if you feel well.
Fosinopril is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it may harm the unborn baby. It is also not recommended while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk and cause harm to the nursing infant. Consult your doctor for alternatives.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
It is generally not recommended to stop taking Fosinopril suddenly without consulting your doctor. Stopping abruptly may cause a sudden increase in blood pressure. Your doctor may need to gradually reduce the dose before stopping completely.
Warning
WARNING: This drug can cause serious (possibly fatal) harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. Consult your doctor for more details and to discuss the use of reliable forms of birth control while taking this medication. If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor right away.
