Uses
USES: Fosaprepitant is used with other medications to help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment (chemotherapy). Fosaprepitant works by blocking one of the body's natural substances (substance P/neurokinin 1) that causes vomiting. This medication will not treat nausea or vomiting that has already started. Ask your doctor what you should do if you already have nausea or vomiting.
How to use FOSAPREPITANT - INJECTION
HOW TO USE: Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start using fosaprepitant and each time you get treatment. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. This medication is given by injection into a vein by a health care professional. It is given as directed by your doctor, usually 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy. Your doctor may also direct you to take a form of this medication given by mouth (aprepitant) for the next 2 days. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Children's dosage is based on weight and age. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Fosaprepitant may rarely cause severe allergic reactions (such as flushing, redness, or trouble breathing) while it is being given. Your doctor may decide to stop the infusion if this happens. Tell your healthcare professional right away if you have any of symptoms of a severe allergic reaction during your infusion. If the infusion is stopped, do not use fosaprepitant again. Tell your doctor if you vomit or feel nauseated.
