Faq for FLURBIPROFEN - ORAL
Flurbiprofen is an oral medication used to relieve pain, inflammation, and joint stiffness caused by various conditions such as arthritis, menstrual cramps, and dental procedures.
Flurbiprofen belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by inhibiting the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause pain and inflammation.
The recommended dosage of flurbiprofen varies depending on the condition being treated. It is important to follow the instructions provided by your doctor or the dosage instructions on the medication label.
Common side effects of flurbiprofen include upset stomach, stomach pain, heartburn, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and drowsiness. If these side effects persist or worsen, it is important to consult your healthcare provider.
It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements. Certain medications can interact with flurbiprofen and increase the risk of side effects or reduce the effectiveness of the medication.
Flurbiprofen should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medication during pregnancy.
Consuming alcohol while taking flurbiprofen may increase the risk of stomach bleeding and other side effects. It is recommended to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while on this medication.
The onset of action of flurbiprofen varies from person to person, but it typically starts working within one to two hours after taking the medication. However, the full effects may not be felt until several days of regular use.
Flurbiprofen is generally not recommended for use in children unless specifically prescribed by a healthcare professional. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Warning
WARNING: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including flurbiprofen) may rarely increase the risk for a heart attack or stroke. This effect can happen at any time while taking this drug but is more likely if you take it for a long time. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes). Do not take this drug right before or after heart bypass surgery (CABG). Also, this drug may rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking this drug. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking flurbiprofen and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech.
