Fidaxomicin is known as a macrolide antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of this resistant bacteria. This antibiotic works in the intestines and is not absorbed by your body. Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

How to use FIDAXOMICIN - ORAL

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually twice daily (every 12 hours). For the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take this medication at the same time(s) every day. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Side Effects

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, or stomach/abdominal pain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Faq for FIDAXOMICIN - ORAL

Fidaxomicin is an oral medication used to treat Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD), a type of infection that commonly occurs after the use of antibiotics.

Fidaxomicin works by inhibiting the production of toxins in the bacteria causing CDAD, thereby reducing the symptoms and preventing the recurrence of the infection.

Fidaxomicin is usually taken orally, with or without food. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions and complete the full course of treatment for optimal results.

Common side effects of fidaxomicin include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and a mild rash. If you experience severe diarrhea or allergic reactions, seek medical attention immediately.

Fidaxomicin may interact with certain medications, such as rifamycins and drugs that affect liver enzymes. Make sure to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking to avoid any potential interactions.

Fidaxomicin has shown high effectiveness in treating CDAD, with similar cure rates to other commonly used treatments. It is also associated with a lower risk of recurrence compared to alternative therapies.

Fidaxomicin typically starts working within a few days of starting treatment. However, it is important to complete the full course of medication as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, to ensure complete eradication of the infection.

The safety of fidaxomicin during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using this medication in such situations.

Fidaxomicin has been approved for use in children aged 6 months and older. However, the dosage and safety may vary depending on the child's age and weight. Consult a pediatrician for appropriate use in children.
