How to use DRONABINOL - ORAL
HOW TO USE: Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking dronabinol and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually up to 4 to 6 times daily if you are taking it to control nausea and vomiting or twice daily (before lunch and before dinner) if you are taking it to treat appetite loss. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. If you are taking this medication to control nausea and vomiting, your dosage may also be based on your body size. Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often or for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of serious side effects will increase. If you suddenly stop using this medication, you may have withdrawal symptoms (such as irritability, trouble sleeping, restlessness, hot flashes, diarrhea). To help prevent withdrawal, your doctor may lower your dose slowly. Withdrawal is more likely if you have used dronabinol for a long time or in high doses. Tell your doctor or pharmacist right away if you have withdrawal. Though it helps many people, this medication may sometimes cause addiction. This risk may be higher if you have a substance use disorder (such as overuse of or addiction to drugs/alcohol). Take this medication exactly as prescribed to lower the risk of addiction. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Faq for DRONABINOL - ORAL
Dronabinol is an oral medication that contains synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient found in marijuana. It is used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy as well as to stimulate appetite in patients with AIDS.
Dronabinol works by binding to specific cannabinoid receptors in the brain, which helps to reduce nausea and vomiting. It also stimulates the appetite centers in the brain, leading to an increase in food intake.
Common side effects of Dronabinol include dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, mood changes, dry mouth, increased heart rate, and stomach pain. Additionally, some patients may experience hallucinations or feelings of being "high."
Dronabinol is usually taken orally as directed by your healthcare provider. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and timing schedule. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may help to reduce stomach upset.
Yes, Dronabinol may interact with other medications, especially those that affect the central nervous system. It may enhance the effects of sedatives, tranquilizers, and alcohol, leading to increased drowsiness or dizziness. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking before starting Dronabinol.
Dronabinol has the potential for abuse and dependency, although the risk is considered low. It should only be used as prescribed by a healthcare provider and monitored closely for any signs of misuse or addiction.
Dronabinol is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as there is limited data available on its safety in these situations. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using it.
The effects of Dronabinol can vary among individuals. It may start working within 1 to 3 hours after ingestion, but it may take a few weeks of regular use to experience the full therapeutic benefits.
Dronabinol is primarily approved for these specific conditions. However, in certain cases, healthcare providers may prescribe it off-label for other conditions, such as chronic pain or multiple sclerosis.
