Faq for DACLIZUMAB - SUBCUTANEOUS INJECTION
Daclizumab is a medication that is administered via subcutaneous injection. It is primarily used for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS).
Daclizumab works by targeting and blocking certain immune cells (CD25-expressing lymphocytes) that contribute to the inflammatory process in MS. By doing so, it helps to reduce the number and severity of MS relapses.
Daclizumab is administered once monthly as a subcutaneous injection. Each injection should be given approximately 4 weeks apart.
Yes, some common side effects of daclizumab include skin reactions at the injection site, flu-like symptoms (such as headache, fatigue, and fever), gastrointestinal disturbances, and liver function abnormalities. It is important to discuss any side effects with your healthcare provider.
Daclizumab is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is also not recommended while breastfeeding, as it is not known if daclizumab passes into breast milk.
The effects of daclizumab may vary from person to person, but it typically takes a few weeks to months to notice a significant impact on MS relapses and disease activity. It is important to continue using daclizumab as prescribed, even if immediate benefits are not observed.
Daclizumab can be used as a monotherapy or in combination with other MS medications. However, it is crucial to discuss any potential drug interactions or contraindications with your healthcare provider before starting or changing any treatment regimen.
Daclizumab should be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature between 36°F and 46°F (2°C and 8°C). It should not be frozen. Before administration, the medication can be allowed to reach room temperature for 30 minutes.
Insurance coverage for daclizumab may vary depending on the specific insurance plan and individual circumstances. It is recommended to contact your insurance provider or speak with your healthcare provider's office to determine coverage options and potential financial assistance programs.
