Faq for DABRAFENIB - ORAL
Dabrafenib is an oral medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as kinase inhibitors. It is used for the treatment of certain types of cancers, specifically melanoma with a specific mutation in the BRAF gene.
Dabrafenib works by inhibiting the activity of the mutated BRAF protein, which is often found in melanoma cells. By blocking this protein, Dabrafenib helps to slow down the growth and spread of cancer cells.
Common side effects of Dabrafenib may include fever, fatigue, headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash, joint pain, and skin sensitivity to sunlight. It is important to report any severe or persistent side effects to your healthcare provider.
Dabrafenib is usually taken orally, with or without food. The dosage and schedule of administration will be determined by your doctor based on your specific condition. It is important to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
Certain medications, including some blood thinners, anticonvulsants, and antibiotics, may interact with Dabrafenib. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter drugs, and supplements, to avoid any potential drug interactions.
The duration of Dabrafenib treatment will depend on various factors, including the stage and progression of the cancer. Your doctor will determine the appropriate duration of treatment for you. It is important to continue taking Dabrafenib as prescribed, even if you start feeling better.
Dabrafenib may increase the risk of developing certain skin cancers, including non-melanoma skin cancer. It is important to protect yourself from excessive sun exposure and regularly check your skin for any abnormal changes. Additionally, Dabrafenib may cause heart problems, so your heart function may be monitored during treatment.
Dabrafenib may harm a developing fetus, so it is generally not recommended during pregnancy. It is also not known if Dabrafenib passes into breast milk, so women are advised to avoid breastfeeding while taking this medication.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is close to the time of your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
