If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually 4 times a day or as directed by your doctor. Faq for CYSTEAMINE - ORAL
Cysteamine oral solution is used to treat a genetic condition called nephropathic cystinosis, which causes an accumulation of the amino acid cysteine in the body's cells.
Cysteamine oral solution works by reducing the levels of cystine in the cells, helping to prevent damage to organs like the kidneys, eyes, and liver.
Cysteamine oral solution is usually taken four times a day, at regular intervals. It is important to take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor and not to skip any doses.
Common side effects of cysteamine oral solution may include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, diarrhea, bad breath, and skin rash. Less common but more serious side effects may include kidney problems and increased risk of stomach ulcers.
Cysteamine oral solution may interact with certain medications, so it is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the medications you are currently taking. This includes prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
The duration of cysteamine oral solution treatment will depend on your individual condition and response to the medication. It is usually a lifelong treatment for nephropathic cystinosis.
Cysteamine oral solution should not be used if you have a history of sensitivity or allergic reaction to cysteamine or any of its ingredients. It may also interact with certain medical conditions, so it is important to discuss your medical history with your doctor before starting this medication.
It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of using cysteamine oral solution during pregnancy or while breastfeeding with your doctor. They will be able to provide guidance on the best course of action.
If you accidentally miss a dose of cysteamine oral solution, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
