COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Seromycin
GENERIC NAME(S): cycloserine
Uses
USES: This medication is used with other medications to treat tuberculosis (TB). In some cases, it may also be used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs). It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.
How to use CYCLOSERINE - ORAL
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually twice daily (every 12 hours) or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your weight, medical condition, cycloserine blood levels, and response to treatment. Do not take more than 1000 mg per day. For the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take this medication at the same time(s) every day. Continue to take this medication (and other TB medications) until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear. Stopping the medication too early or skipping doses may allow the bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection and cause the infection to be more difficult to treat (resistant). Your doctor may also direct you to take vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) to help prevent certain side effects from cycloserine. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Faq for CYCLOSERINE - ORAL
Cycloserine is an antibiotic medication that is administered orally to treat tuberculosis (TB) along with other antibiotics.
Cycloserine works by preventing the growth of the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. It inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to the death of the bacteria.
Cycloserine is usually taken orally as directed by your doctor. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment. Take the medication with food to minimize stomach upset.
Common side effects of Cycloserine may include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, irritability, anxiety, depression, and numbness or tingling in the hands or feet. If any of these side effects worsen or persist, contact your doctor.
Yes, there are several precautions to consider while taking Cycloserine. It may cause seizures, so it should be used with caution in patients with a history of seizures or other conditions that lower the seizure threshold. Cycloserine can also cause psychiatric symptoms, such as depression, psychosis, and suicidal thoughts, so close monitoring is necessary.
Alcohol should be avoided while taking Cycloserine as it may increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and seizures.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
Yes, Cycloserine can interact with certain medications, including alcohol, tranquilizers, sedatives, and antiseizure drugs. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently taking to avoid any potential interactions.
The effectiveness of Cycloserine in treating tuberculosis varies from person to person. Your doctor will monitor your progress with regular tests and determine the appropriate duration of treatment.
