If you are taking this medication in divided doses, take the largest dose at bedtime. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. In infants, the dosage may also be based on weight. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day. Faq for CLOBAZAM - ORAL
Clobazam is used to treat seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy.
Clobazam works by suppressing abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which helps to reduce the frequency and severity of seizures.
Clobazam carries a potential for addiction and dependence, especially with prolonged use or high doses. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions and dosage recommendations carefully.
Common side effects of Clobazam include drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, constipation, and difficulty sleeping. These side effects are usually mild and improve with time.
It is generally not recommended to consume alcohol while taking Clobazam, as it can increase the sedative effects and may impair your ability to operate machinery or perform tasks requiring mental alertness.
Clobazam may cause harm to an unborn baby, so it is not recommended during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It can also pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby, so consult your doctor before breastfeeding while taking Clobazam.
The effects of Clobazam can usually be felt within a few hours of taking the medication, but it may take several weeks to reach its full effectiveness in controlling seizures.
Clobazam is approved for use in children above the age of 2 years for the treatment of seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Yes, Clobazam is a prescription medication and can only be obtained with a valid prescription from a healthcare professional.
Warning
WARNING: Taking clobazam with opioid medications (such as codeine, hydrocodone) may increase your risk of very serious side effects, including death. To lower your risk, your doctor should have you take the smallest dose of clobazam that works, and take it for the shortest possible time. Get medical help right away if any of these very serious side effects occur: slow/shallow breathing, unusual lightheadedness, severe drowsiness/dizziness, difficulty waking up.
