How to use CHENODIOL - ORAL
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually twice a day: once in the morning and once at night, or as directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on your medical condition, weight, and response to treatment. Aluminum-containing antacids and certain drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol) can decrease how much of this medication your body absorbs. If you are taking any of these medications, separate them from chenodiol by at least 4 hours. To reduce your risk of side effects such as diarrhea, your doctor will direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Tell your doctor if you have severe diarrhea. Your doctor may need to lower your dose or stop the medication. Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often without your doctor's approval. Your condition will not improve any faster, and the risk of serious side effects may be increased. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. Do not stop taking this medication without talking with your doctor. It may take up to 24 months before the gall stones are completely dissolved. Your doctor will order tests (gall bladder sonograms or x-rays) to check your progress. Keep all medical appointments. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens (stomach/abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting).

Faq for CHENODIOL - ORAL
Chenodiol is an oral medication commonly prescribed to dissolve gallstones in patients who are not suitable candidates for surgery.
Chenodiol works by reducing the cholesterol content in bile, which helps to dissolve gallstones over time.
The duration of treatment with Chenodiol can vary, but it commonly takes several months to achieve the desired results. Continuous use of the medication as prescribed by your doctor is essential for optimal outcomes.
Common side effects of Chenodiol include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and mild changes in liver function tests. Rare but serious side effects may include severe stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), or persistent nausea/vomiting. It is important to report any unusual symptoms to your doctor promptly.
Chenodiol is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as its effects on the unborn baby or nursing infant are not well-studied. Consult with your doctor for the best course of action if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
It is not recommended to stop taking Chenodiol without consulting your doctor. They will guide you on the proper continuation or discontinuation of treatment based on your individual circumstances and medical history.
Chenodiol may interact with certain medications, such as birth control pills, cholesterol-lowering drugs, and antacids. Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
Chenodiol is generally safe for long-term use under proper medical supervision. However, regular monitoring of liver function tests is necessary to ensure its continued safety.
Drinking alcohol in moderation is generally considered safe while taking Chenodiol. However, excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of liver problems, so it is advisable to limit alcohol intake or consult with your doctor for personalized advice.
