Faq for BISOPROLOL - ORAL
Bisoprolol is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and other heart-related conditions.
Bisoprolol works by blocking the action of certain natural substances in the body, such as adrenaline, which can increase blood pressure and heart rate. By slowing down the heart rate and reducing the workload on the heart, Bisoprolol helps to lower blood pressure and improve heart function.
Bisoprolol is usually taken once daily, with or without food. It is important to take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking Bisoprolol without consulting your doctor, as suddenly stopping the medication can worsen your condition.
Common side effects of Bisoprolol may include tiredness, dizziness, headache, slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, and cold hands/feet. It is important to report any severe or persistent side effects to your doctor.
Bisoprolol is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless clearly needed. It is also not recommended for use while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk and harm the nursing baby. Consult your doctor for more information.
Bisoprolol can sometimes worsen symptoms of asthma or other breathing problems. Tell your doctor if you have a history of these conditions before starting Bisoprolol. Your doctor may need to adjust your treatment plan or prescribe an alternative medication.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Bisoprolol may interact with other medications, including other blood pressure medications, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), diabetes medications, and certain antidepressants. It is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the medications you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.
The onset of action of Bisoprolol varies depending on the condition being treated. For high blood pressure, it may take several weeks to see the full effects. Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure and adjust the dosage accordingly.
