Faq for BISACODYL - ORAL

Bisacodyl is a medication that is taken by mouth to treat constipation or to empty the bowels before certain medical procedures.

Bisacodyl works by stimulating the bowel muscles to help move stool through the intestines and promote bowel movements.

Bisacodyl is usually taken as a single dose or as directed by your healthcare professional. It is important to follow the instructions on the packaging or given by your doctor.

Bisacodyl usually produces bowel movements within 6 to 12 hours after taking it. However, the onset of action can vary among individuals.

You should consult with your healthcare provider before taking bisacodyl if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. They can assess the potential risks and benefits for you and offer appropriate guidance.

Common side effects of bisacodyl include stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. If these side effects persist or worsen, you should contact your doctor.

Bisacodyl may interact with certain medications, so it is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products.

You should avoid prolonged or excessive use of bisacodyl, as it can lead to dependence or disruption of normal bowel function. Additionally, if you have a history of certain medical conditions such as abdominal pain, gastrointestinal obstruction, or an inflammatory bowel disease, you should use bisacodyl with caution and under medical supervision.

If you miss a dose of bisacodyl, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
