Faq for AZILSARTAN - ORAL

Azilsartan is an oral medication that belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). It is primarily used in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults.

Azilsartan works by blocking the action of a hormone called angiotensin II, which constricts blood vessels and increases blood pressure. By blocking this hormone, Azilsartan helps relax blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.

The recommended starting dosage of Azilsartan is usually 40 mg once daily. The dosage can be adjusted by your doctor depending on your blood pressure response. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Azilsartan can be taken with certain other blood pressure medications if prescribed by your doctor. However, it is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to avoid any potential interactions.

Common side effects of Azilsartan may include dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, headache, and back pain. Serious but rare side effects may include allergic reactions, swelling of the face or throat, and liver problems. It is important to seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe or persistent side effects.

Azilsartan is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby. It is also not recommended for use while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk and harm the nursing infant. Consult your doctor for safer alternatives if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Azilsartan can be used by elderly patients, but the dosage may need to be adjusted based on individual needs and health conditions. It is important for elderly patients to closely monitor their blood pressure and report any side effects to their doctor.

Warning

WARNING: This drug can cause serious (possibly fatal) harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. Consult your doctor for more details and to discuss the use of reliable forms of birth control while taking this medication. If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor right away.
