Faq for AMLODIPINE/BENAZEPRIL - ORAL
Amlodipine/Benazepril is a combination medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It contains two active ingredients, amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) and benazepril (an ACE inhibitor).
Amlodipine works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and lowering blood pressure. Benazepril works by inhibiting the enzyme ACE, which is responsible for narrowing blood vessels and increasing blood pressure.
Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, swelling of the ankles/feet, cough, or stomach upset. If these symptoms persist or worsen, it's important to consult a healthcare professional.
Before starting Amlodipine/Benazepril, inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking. Certain medications, such as potassium supplements or diuretics, may interact with Amlodipine/Benazepril and cause side effects. Your doctor will determine if it's safe to combine these medications.
Amlodipine/Benazepril is usually taken once daily, with or without food. It's important to take the medication at the same time each day for best results. Follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist.
It is not recommended to use Amlodipine/Benazepril during pregnancy as it may harm the developing fetus. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Amlodipine/Benazepril may also pass into breast milk, so talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
Like any medication, Amlodipine/Benazepril can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. If you experience symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical attention.
Amlodipine/Benazepril may take several weeks to fully lower your blood pressure. It's important to continue taking the medication as prescribed even if you feel well. Follow up with your doctor regularly to monitor your blood pressure levels.
Warning
WARNING: Benazepril (one of the ingredients in this product) can cause serious (possibly fatal) harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy. It is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. Consult your doctor for more details and to discuss the use of reliable forms of birth control while taking this medication. If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor right away.
