Faq for AMBRISENTAN - ORAL
Ambrisentan is an oral medication used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
Ambrisentan works by blocking the effects of a substance called endothelin, which can constrict blood vessels in the lungs. By blocking endothelin, Ambrisentan helps to widen blood vessels and improve blood flow in the lungs.
The recommended starting dosage of Ambrisentan is usually 5 mg taken once daily. Your doctor may adjust the dosage based on your response and tolerability. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions and not exceed the recommended dosage.
Ambrisentan may start working within the first few weeks of treatment, but it can take up to 12 weeks to see the full benefits. It is important to continue taking Ambrisentan as prescribed, even if you do not immediately notice improvements.
Common side effects of Ambrisentan include stuffy nose, headache, flushing, respiratory tract infection, and swelling in the ankles and legs. These side effects are usually mild and may improve over time. However, if you experience severe or persistent side effects, it is important to contact your doctor.
Ambrisentan is known to cause birth defects and is contraindicated during pregnancy. It is also not recommended during breastfeeding. It is important to use effective birth control while taking Ambrisentan and discuss any potential risks with your healthcare provider.
Yes, Ambrisentan can interact with certain medications, such as cyclosporine, rifampin, and some oral contraceptives. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking before starting Ambrisentan to minimize the risk of interactions.
No, Ambrisentan is not a cure for pulmonary arterial hypertension. It helps to manage and treat the symptoms of the condition, but it is important to continue taking Ambrisentan as prescribed by your doctor to maintain its benefits.
Ambrisentan can be taken with or without food. However, taking it with a high-fat meal may increase the absorption of the medication, so it is recommended to take it consistently in relation to meals.
