Aliskiren oral medication is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults.

Aliskiren is a direct renin inhibitor that works by decreasing the production of a hormone called renin, thereby relaxing blood vessels and reducing blood pressure.

Common side effects of Aliskiren may include diarrhea, dizziness, headache, fatigue, cough, and skin rash. If you experience any persistent or severe side effects, it is important to contact your healthcare provider.

Aliskiren can be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure medications such as diuretics, beta-blockers, or calcium channel blockers. However, it is important to consult with your doctor before starting or changing any medications.

Aliskiren is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby. It is also not recommended while breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk.

Aliskiren may start working within a few hours to a few weeks, but individual response may vary. It is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed by your doctor, even if you do not notice immediate effects.

There are no specific dietary restrictions associated with Aliskiren. However, it is generally recommended to follow a healthy and balanced diet to help manage high blood pressure.

If you miss a dose of Aliskiren, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Aliskiren may interact with other medications, including certain diuretics, potassium supplements, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and certain antifungal medications. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products.
